| Incident Senior Aircraftman Gary Thompson, 51, of the Royal Auxiliary Airforce Regiment, died on 13 April, 2008, in an explosion in Afghanistan. He was undertaking a patrol to protect NATO's Kandahar Airfield from enemy attack when his vehicle was caught in an explosion which killed another aircraftman. The father-of-five was a reservist, having joined No 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force in 2005. | |
